From where we sit it’s difficult to imagine a context for a person rising from the dead. However, the bible places it in the context of the new thing God is doing. God is always wringing life out of death, hope from despair, peace from discord, justice from oppression. It’s what God does. The Jesus maligned and mangled, ground down in the world’s crucible, becomes the one who puts the world right. Easter is what seals the deal and hard wires resurrection into the universe and human life. In context, the empty tomb equals a new heaven and a new earth! Even though it’s not always apparent, that’s where we live now.
