We live in unincorporated Washington County and I work in unincorporated Washington County. “Corp” meaning body, that means I live and work out of the body. Some people really like that. Different tax structure, less of that annoying infrastructure, and I can park whatever I want on my lawn. But I kinda miss being part of the corp, mixed blessing that it is.
In Advent we anticipate God joining the corp, the human body, the body of humans. The prophet Zephaniah berates and warns a wayward people – idolatrous, faithless, and prone hard to injustice. Then in our Advent passage he promises the return of God’s good grace. God will dwell “in your midst,” he says. God is going to re-incorporate. That’s what’s called the “good news.” That’s what’s called, “Christmas.”
