No one knows what happens on the other side of death’s door. The Apostle Paul goes to the plant world to mine metaphors of seed and plant. The one thing is like the other, but different. What we’ll be like on the other side is like we are on this side, but different. It’s just one more surprise in the life of faith full of surprises and upended expectations. Like we’re used to hating enemies, but Jesus says to love them. We tend to curse those who abuse us, Jesus says to bless them. We hit back, Jesus says to turn the other cheek. Who knew! To paraphrase the old sportswear ad about runners, Christians. Yeah, we’re different. And not because Christians are especially good, but because God is good.
