“Extremely religious in every way” is how Paul described the Athenians of his day. We Pacific Northwesterners are extremely spiritual in every way, but not so religious. We resist adherence to dogma yet want to be tuned in to something greater than ourselves. So religion gets a bad rap. But Religion, like a ligament, holds things together with flexibility and strength. The church offers a ligamenting alternative to the world’s brokenness: Jesus, who came to serve, love, and comfort. And that’s a good thing.
