In the land of the Gerasenes Jesus encounters a man naked and without a house, howling among the tombs. They used to chain him to keep him contained, but he’d break free. Jesus and the man have a fairly intense conversation after which his demons flee and he goes home to tell the story fully clothed and in his right mind. To be “clothed in Christ” is to find oneself dressed in grace, peace, compassion, and love. For Christians it’s the wardrobe of our baptismal identity. Jesus frees all of us from our chains, clothes us, and sends us home. There are hundreds on the streets for whom that would be very Good News.
