There’s a type in movies and books, the unlikely or accidental character. The clerical worker who’s assigned a dangerous secret mission. The aged-out astronaut who comes back to pilot the shuttle and save the world. It’s sometimes humorous and sometimes deadly serious. It’s a fictional type because it reflects something in the real world. A regular public transit patron chooses a seat in the front of the bus and triggers a revolution. A teenage boy whose high school is the scene of unspeakable horror becomes a spokesman for his classmates’ demand for sensible gun laws. What we learn from our faith is that God chooses the tongue-tied, zealots, and laborers to bring the world more into alignment with God’s intent. That probably means God chooses us, too. All we have to do is say Yes. Sometimes that’s tentatively and sometimes passionately. Yes gets us going, and bears repeating over the years. It takes a village, a community. And that’s what we’re about. The Reedville Church: Hope Here.
Sunday we begin a study on Reclaiming Jesus that will run through the season of Lent. We’ll get started about 11:00 with a chili lunch. See https://reclaimingjesus.org/.
