In Joppa Peter had a vision of an expanded practice of inclusivity, part of the new thing God is doing. It stretches the boundaries we erect in the church and civil society. More than a warm feeling or “woke” bumper sticker, it’s part of our baptismal identity. It’s difficult and it takes practice. Martin Luther King, Jr. put it well: “Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” The arc of the biblical witness to God’s intent for the world is long, but it bends toward all-encompassing love.
